Thanksgiving Prayer: Feed Us Your Mercy

Thanksgiving Prayer: Feed Us Your Mercy

Gracious Provider,

FEED us

Break the chains of injustice

Untie the cords of persecution

Set the oppressed free
Break our shackles of prejudice

FEED us

Mercy

You love everyone regardless of
Race
Faith
Gender or
Who we love and embrace

FEED us

Let your light break forth like the dawn,
and your healing gravy flow

FEED us

We cry
You are with us

Break the chaotic chains of injustice
Untie the cords of persecution
Set the oppressed free
and break the shackles of prejudice

FEED us

Mercy

We lay our anger and pain on your alter.
We seek your light in the darkness

Lord guide us – always

Sharing our food with the hungry
and the poor with shelter—
We clothe our naked brothers and sisters

Loving everyone the way you love us
regardless of
Race
Gender
Faith and
Who they love and embrace.

Wrapped in your love, we give Thanksgiving for feeding us your comfort and grace.

Amen

Stop Church Bullies

Church bullies.

Church bullies have become the public face and shame of Christ.

Church bullies are haters.

Church bullies hatred has spread quickly and wildly like a fungus.

Church bullies torment:

  • our Muslim siblings,
  • our siblings of color,
  • our LGBTQIA siblings,
  • women
  • and all of our other marginalized siblings.

Church bullies declare themselves righteous despite their own sins of

  • pedophilia,
  • adultery,
  • racism
  • and hatred.

Where is the rest of Christ’s church?

We hide in our pews.

We are polite.

We are silent.

Christ did not call his church to become a place of division, hatred and anger.

Christ did not call his church to be silent.

Stop looking away as they grope our Lord, mock her, take pictures of their evil deeds and toss her into the prison of shame we built for her.

OUCH! She cries out.

The Lord hears her.

She delivers her.

Psalm 34:17

We are the Church.

We are the body of Christ.

Our siblings cry out.

We hear her cries.

We are the body of Christ.

How will we respond?

We are the Church.

We are the body of Christ.

We hear our siblings crying.

The Holy Spirit shakes us.

We hear her voice.

She says, “Wake UP!  Your sister is crying.”

By oppression and judgment she was taken away. Yet who protested?

Isaiah 53:8

I protest! Do you?

We are the Church.

We are the body of Christ.

Our siblings cry out.

We hear her cries.

Let our love mushroom

Almighty Mother, thank you for your warm embrace. Wake me from my white cocoon. Guide my voice, my steps and my message to create a safe gathering place for everyone to worship you.  A church. Your church. Christ’s church.  We are the Church.

Mama, do not forget the helpless.   Be with and wipe every tear of my sisters who have been raped, bullied or abused. Do not give the wicked the last laugh. We seek your justice. Amen.

Church Bully Prayer

What better way to eulogize Westboro Baptist Church leader and biggest church bully, Fred Phelps than with a prayer?

Bully Free ChurchPsalm 73:6-10

Pretentious with arrogance, they wear the latest fashions in violence, Pampered and overfed, decked out in silk bows of silliness. They jeer, using words to kill; they bully their way with words. They’re full of hot air, loudmouths disturbing the peace. People actually listen to them—can you believe it? Like thirsty puppies, they lap up their words.

Almighty powerful Lord of the weak and the mighty.  Help us to live together. Inspire the strong to care for the weak.  Help me Lord to use my loudmouth and words to build up and not tear down.  Merciful creator we leave arrogance and pretentiousness on our journey to the cross. Help me shake the dust of violence and put on the cloth of humility and love. Amen

“But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.” Matthew 5:44

God loves. Rest in peace Fred.
