Good Friday Prayer

Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.

At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split. Matthew 27:50-51

Thank you for defeating death.

Forgive us Lord.

Help us forgive and love one another.

Ash Jumping

Ash Jumping

Forgive me Lord,  I sinned against you, my neighbors and myself.  I have not loved my sisters or myself as you love me.  I’ve sinned.

I am ashamed, have shamed and been shamed.

I’ve been proud and boastful.

Thank you for pulling me out of the ashes.  You never hesitate or deny your love. Thank you for gently dusting me off. Thank you for kissing my ash-filled head and wiping my tears. Thank you for loving me despite my sins.screenshot_20170301-105529

We journey to your cross. Cast our burdens upon your alter. Our sins a pile of ashes.

Praying for a new day, weeping as you sacrifice yourself. We failed your commandments. We failed you. Looking forward to your empty tomb and the promise it holds for everyone you love.

I feel wrapped in your love and forgiveness. Thank you. Amen.

I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes. Job 42:6

Guard the Tomb

Gaurd Jesus TombMatthew 27:62-66

The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. “Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’  So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.”

“Take a guard,” Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.”  So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard.

Dear Jesus,

We are sorry for what we have done

and for all the things we have left undone.

This is the longest day of our journey.

It is difficult to wait.

Forgive us Father.  We have sinned.

Betrayed and Hated

Matthew 24:9-10

“Then you will be handed ovesword-of-the-wordr to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other

Merciful Lord Jesus,

following you to the cross is difficult and scary.

We are called like sheep to be led to be slaughtered.

I don’t want to be hated!  I want to be loved.

I’ve been betrayed. It hurts!

Comfort my troubled heart with your Word.

Surround us with your mighty angels.

Please don’t let go of me!

Moving Mountains of Doubt

Mark 11:23

“Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will happen for them.
DoubtI cast doubt into the ditch.  I want to be decisive.  Lord, you are our leader. We follow you to the cross, grateful for your forgiveness. Help push this mountain of doubts and insecurity into the ditch.  I trust you Lord.  Amen.

Trust in the Lord

Trust With Your HeartProverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord  with all your heart

lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to him,

and he will make your paths straight.

Trust?  I give my heart to you Lord.  I place it on your altar. I know you will take much better care of my heart than I ever have.  I lean on you.  Help make sense of the chaos of this world. Make clear our path to the cross.  Our journey is almost over. Amen
