Kiss My Ash

Ash WednesdayFather, I am dirty.  I’ve fallen short.  I have not loved my sisters or myself as you love me.  I’ve fallen into filth. I am ashamed, have shamed and been shamed.  I’ve been proud and boastful.

Thank you Lord for pulling me out of the ashes.  Thank you for gently dusting me off. Thank you for gently kissing my ash-filled head and wiping my tears. Thank you for your sacrifice.

I journey with you to your cross. I cast my burdens upon you, praying for a new day, weeping as you sacrifice yourself for my transgressions – for failing your commandment to love – looking forward to your empty tomb. I feel wrapped in your love and forgiveness. Amen.

Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes. Job 42:6
